Twentieth Century Brooklyn: What Made It So Special?
"Welcome to the nation's fourth largest city." That sign greeted people who came to Brooklyn in the early 20th centry. Although, technically, one of the five New York City boroughs, Brooklyn stands apart for its growth and change that persist today. This course will focus on the factors that make Brooklyn special in areas such as the arts, government, athletics, and academics. Brooklyn has produced numerous Nobel prize winners and notables such as Bernie Sanders, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, Larry King, Woody Allen, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
